NOOOOOOO!!!!

Remember that scene in Empire Strikes Back when Luke is told by Darth Vader that they are like father and son?  And Luke like any good kid who was dropped by a manical father bent on taking over the universe and not to mention was instrumental in killing his mother (basically-- though he never knew this) but definitely killed his friend Ben--- he responded in the most resonable manner available to him.  NOOOOOOOO!!!

Well that's what I said when I found this out.  Okay first.  I've been away cause I was like sick.  Had a stomach thing.  You don't want to know.  But when I found this out I crawled out of my sick bed, turned on my ancient computer to inform you--- my faithful audience.

So here goes.   There's a movie being made.  Hold onto your I-Phone or other 3G compatible device.  It's Asteroids.  No not Deep Impact or that Bruce Willis thing.  No you read right you 80's kids.  Asteroids.  You know the Atari thing.  I think it was.  GOD HELP US!!!

As another blogger, much brighter than me put it.... "No good can come of this."

So here goes...

"Though Hollywood excels in making plotless movies, the sale of Asteroids to Universal breaks new ground. The people who are bringing you GI Joe this month are about to make a movie about a triangle shooting a bunch of blobs.

Anyone who is a fan of classic video games knows the familiar story behind Asteroids . . . which is that you are a triangle, and you are shooting a series of geometric shapes. Released in 1979, the game is a perfect example of extremely early and crude computer graphics. And seriously, there was no effort made whatsoever to have a story. Why were you shooting the asteroids? Were they controlled by aliens? Were you trying to break them up so you could mine them for nickel in their cores? It was all an 8-bit mystery.

That's why the story that four studios had a bidding war for the rights to Asteroid seems like it should run in The Onion rather than The Hollywood Reporter. But is is all true.

The movie will be produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura, the mastermind behind GI Joe. It is to be written by Matthew Lopez, whose main claim to fame is that he worked on the script for Race to Witch Mountain. He's also done work on the forthcoming flick The Sorcerer's Apprentice. So will this be a kid-friendly film about triangles and blobs, or more violent adult fare? Hard to say. "

And the article from Hollywood reporter goes on to state that <gulp> Universal Studios is looking to develop other Hasbro board games to the movies screen like Candy Land and Battleship.  !!!!!!!!????  What is the world coming to???  Are their not any books left in the world??  What about Screenwriters-- wait maybe.... Are their not any short stories, novellas, novels left in the world??  Notice I didn't play the words comic books in there.

Hollywood is always after doing it their way. Special effects and short term rush of excitement is much more important to them then a great plot. will it change, i think not, but it is sad.
